I write with a proposal for Weymouth & Portland with regard to the ongoing Condor saga.

If the council and government are forced to cough up ten million pounds for port improvements then Condor should be forced to provide something in return. This is called negotiation.

It may have passed local councillors by, but from this summer onward there is no fast ferry service to France, west of Portsmouth.

Weymouth will end up with a perfectly usable but redundant berth and presumably, Condor will still have their existing ferry/ferries available.

I’m certain that there will be thousands of would be customers who would jump at the chance of using what will be the fastest crossing to France via Cherbourg, west of Dover. Not just people from Dorset but from the whole South West, West Midlands and South Wales.

The increase in cross-channel tourism would give Weymouth and surrounding areas an enormous financial boost and provide Condor with another lucrative route.

Apologies if this has already been raised.
