A SERVICE that has spent more than 12 years supporting homeless people in Dorchester has settled into its new home.

The Hub ensures that vulnerable people who are left without a home have a safe place to go for support and advice.

Earlier this year The Hub moved to a new location at High East Street in the county town and from its new location continues to provide the same vital help.

Staff offer support and advice to enable people to find secure accommodation as well as helping to improve their health, increase their skills and confidence, and help them to move on to live independently within the community.

It also provides somewhere warm for people to shelter during the weekdays with access to vital facilities.

These include a hot shower, washing and laundry facilities, dental and medical treatment and the internet, so people are able to job search, access advice and keep in touch with family and friends.

The Friends of The Hub group continue to provide invaluable support for the service and all those it helps.

There is a chance to find out more about the Friends group and The Hub in general at The Friends of the Hub AGM on Tuesday, June 17.

The meeting is being held in the Cerne Abbas Room in the United Church in Dorchester.

Representatives from the providers of The Hub, BCHA (Bournemouth Churches Housing Association), will also be present at the meeting so people from the local community can speak to them about the service.

BCHA is keen to hear from local people to help identify a vision for the future of The Hub.

Head of service at BCHA Mandy Goodenough said: “We’re so grateful to The Friends of The Hub for their continued and incredible support.

“Their AGM is providing us with a great opportunity to speak to the local community about the services we provide in Dorchester and how we can further develop these in line with the needs of local vulnerable people.”
