ROLL up your sleeves to help out with a night of restoration at a Portland theatre.

On Friday, June 20, the Royal Manor Theatre on Portland will be holding a one-off evening of restoration work to help fix up the landmark.

Work that needs doing includes: polishing brass, cleaning windows, putting away props and sweeping the stage.

Volunteers say that what can be accomplished in a few short hours with lots of helpers could take the usual Wednesday work party years to accomplish as there is just so much work.

Volunteers are being urged to meet at 6pm at the lower hall of the theatre where a list of tasks will be divided up. Then music will be put on and everyone will get cracking fixing up the theatre.

Halfway through the night there will be a fish and chip banquet delivered for those that would like it.

Company chairman, Mike Deadman, said they would love lots of people to come along and help to make the theatre cleaner, fresher and more organised.

He said: “The time has come, where our little theatre needs a little extra help. Our theatre gets used by a variety of people, not forgetting members of the public. “The constant footfall, for which we are most grateful, does take its toll on a building of a certain age, and we would like to know if there’s anyone out there, who may be willing to spare a few hours for our one-off evening of restoration.”

He added: “There are many jobs which need doing and we could really do with some help.

“These range from polishing the brass memorial plaques on the back of seats, to sweeping the stage and from cleaning windows to changing light bulbs – the list is incredibly diverse.

“All these jobs can be easily sorted with a few hours dedication from you, our friends.

“We’re not talking about a total re-build, or complete re-decorate – just a touch of paint here, and a making good there.”

Everyone is welcome and all materials will be supplied, but volunteers should bring money for fish and chips should they wish to have them.
