PORTLAND Coastguards helped rescue a stranded boat in Weymouth and attended a cliff fall in West Dorset yesterday.

Just after 9.30am, Portland Coastguard tasked MVS Avocet to assist a broken down vessel in Poole Harbour following a 999 call.

It towed the vessel into Lake Pier slipway, and shortly after at 10.12am, MVS Avocet was then tasked to assist another broken down boat, which it towed into Baiter slipway.

At 11.28am, the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, Poole Coastguards, Poole RNLI and the ambulance service all responded to a report of an elderly man who was suffering heart problems.

The incident happened when the man was on board a yacht, and he was taken to Poole Quay by the lifeboat where he was transferred to ambulance paramedics.

As they were returning from the incident, the RNLI helped assist the crew on board a small Catamaran in Poole Harbour which was capsizing.

The crew managed to right the craft and continued with their sailing just after midday.

At 1.35pm, the coastguards received information from the crew of a seven metre cabin cruiser that was stuck east of Weymouth.

The vessel, called Sienna, had four people and one dog onboard and was touching the rocks at Osmington whilst at anchor.

The crew were unable to lift the anchor to motor free, so coastguards tasked the Weymouth RNLI to attend the incident.

The RNLI managed to cut the vessel clear of the anchor, and escort the cruiser back to Weymouth.

At 6.11pm, Portland Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public following a cliff fall at Cains Folly, near Charmouth.

The Lyme Regis Coastguards attended the area and to check that nobody was injured but advised members of the public that the cliffs in the area remain unstable and to adhere to safety advice signs.

Coastguards were then asked to assist Dorset Fire and Rescue Service after a fire broke out on Pergins Island in Poole Harbour just before 9.30pm.

The inshore lifeboat used several craft from the RNLI college to gain access to the island and transfer fire crew to the island, who extinguished the fire.
