Portland G says...

I am suprised it has taken this long for this to happen. Ever since DCC/W&PBC routed all through traffic up and down this unsuitable road it has been an accident waiting to happen. Lots of drivers try and cut the corners off the 'S' bend even when traffic is approaching in the opposite direction and it is even worse when there is a wedding or church service on at the church. Not only does this road have to cope with the traffic going to/from Chickerell/Granby you now have the traffic that comes up Boot Hill and turns right into Wyke Road to go to Portland instead of using Buxton Road.Traffic is signed to go Granby/Lanehouse route when coming from Dorchester, increasing the amount of traffic. This is presumably because the powers that be KNOW that the stupid lights at Asda and Abbotsbury Road don't work porperly. Because they divert traffic causing congestion everywhere else the route through the lights can be classed as "freeflowing". Instead of spending money making concrete plinths for the variable message signs and the total waste of money on cycle ways that most cyclists don't used they could sit down and create a proper plan to deal with the traffic. But then they haven't got the expertise in the council so they would have to hire in consultants for over the top fees to do it for them. I know, get together a few local residents and business owners, sit them down around a table and let them come up with a plan. I'm sure they would make a better job of it at a fraction of the cost
