SIX thousand litres of water and foam was needed to extinguish a large fire.
Four fire engines and a specialist water-carrying vehicle tackled the blaze in Winterbourne Abbas this afternoon.
The cause of the fire, near Higher Kingston Russell Farm, is believed to have been caused by spread from a nearby bonfire.
Electricity supply in the area had to be shut off whilst crews worked because of overhead cables.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service received ‘multiple calls’ from the public as black plumes of smoke filled the air.
A spokeswoman said: "We believe that the fire was caused by spread from a nearby bonfire.
"It was complete fire damage to an area approximately 20 square metres which was hay bales with a covering tyre stack."
