CHILDREN at Sunninghill Prep-aratory School in Dorchester have been showing off the fruits of their artistic labours.

Pre-prep pupils at the school held a sea-themed Creative Art Week that began with a visit to the Sealife Park and the beach in Weymouth.

After learning about some amazing sea creatures they were asked to make sketches of their favourite ones and took a stroll along the beach to look at typical seaside features.

The following day they were treated to a visit from dance teacher Louise Turner as they recreated the sea and its creatures through dance before singing songs about the seaside.

During the week, the youngsters were also visited by artists Olivia Nurrish and Cathy Taylor, who brought along examples of their paintings and helped them produce some drawings that were stuck on to a seascape.

They also helped inspire the children for other art activities during the week, including seaside drawings that were printed on to bags and then sold to parents to raise money for the RNLI.

The week culminated with a display to show off to parents the various things they had been working on during the week, including performing the dance, drama and music they had been doing.

A spokesman for the school said: “The week was rounded off nicely when parents came to admire the work and share our dance, drama, music and art work in the pre-prep Creative Arts Week performance with some exceptional performances by children playing the drums, violins, flute and piano – a great achievement for such a young age group.
