ABBOTSBURY Swannery is the only place in the world where guests are able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting mute swans.
Families looking for something more unusual to do this summer will enjoy a visit to the popular swannery, where they can help to hand feed 600 swans, swing on the swinging nests play area or get lost in the giant maze.
Guests can also race around the go-karting track, climb up the hay bale mountain or take a ride around the Swannery on the tractor and trailer ride Visitors will be able to see the young cygnets that have hatched in the last couple of months and help out at their daily feeds, which take place at noon and 4pm daily The unique setting of this natural wildlife habitat is popular with filmmakers and has been used as a location for Harry Potter filming. The swans at Abbotsbury are all free flying and there are no cages.
The swannery was established by Benedictine Monks who built the St Peter’s monastery at Abbotsbury during the 1040s.
The swannery is open daily from 10am-5pm. Tickets cost £10.95 for adults and £7.95 for children.
