SIR John Colfox students were more committed and enthusiastic than ever before to the school’s House system, said headteacher Kay Taylor.

She said that every student in the school contributed in some way or another to their house during the year. “On sports day we had the highest participation rate in sporting events than we have ever had and this sums up just how successful the year has been.

“The house system is not just about competition, it is also about developing a community spirit and student leadership,” she said.

The successful students were honoured at a prize-giving event before school broke up for the summer.

Adler House was the overall winner.

Prizewinners included: Evie Dixon, who won the Gerry Pritchard Design Award.

Thai Chant, who took the science and maths Challenge Cups.

Alice Thomas, who won the School Leadership Award for her work as a House Buddy.

Eliza Beecham, who won the Roger Draper Award for being an outstanding House Buddy for the last two years. Kirsty Ellison, who received the Lions Community Award.

Sam Burford, who won the Mayor’s Award for community work for his dedicated work with the sea cadets. Individual point winners for their houses were Jack Parkman, Amber Palfreyman, and Gaby McNamee with Conor Stoneley being the student with the most house points overall.

Representatives of local businesses and sponsors joined the school to present awards.

Mrs Taylor added: “The Sir John Colfox School prides itself on being part of the local community.

“Many of the people in the school are dedicated to helping others and it is a really important element of their education. To have local employers, businessmen and sponsors share our pride in our students’ achievements is really wonderful.”

Sponsors include Barry’s coaches, Oak Apple Embroidery, CJ Fry and Son, Samways, Humberts, Rawmedia, Mr Fisher, and CW Groves and Son.
