Sun is set to shine on a fun filled Weymouth Carnival

WEYMOUTH Carnival is expected to shine – and so is the sun – in a fun-filled day for families tomorrow.

Organisers fearing their parade might be rained on are delighted the forecast throughout the day is mainly for sunny spells.

They have lined up a bumper day of displays and activities, culminating in the grand procession and ending with fireworks.

Participants in the parade are making the last-minute touches to costumes and floats.

Among those taking part are the Let’s Make It community group whose members have been making costumes at workshops.

Twenty two local people – along with 20 Bollywood dancers – will be representing the group in the parade.

Community development worker Julie Hursthouse said it had been an ‘amazing project’ to work on.

She said: “We have engaged over 100 people and the result will be a walking entry in this year’s Weymouth Carnival. Thanks to our local sponsors.”

Carnival chairman Elysia Munday said preparations were going well.

She said: “We’ve got such an exciting day lined up and it’s almost here. We really hope that our supporters get behind our £1 for carnival scheme too so we can make a difference to good causes and charities!

“The procession applications are still flooding in - volunteers too. The team have worked hard and have been battling against the odds this year as we’ve faced new challenges across the board.

“The forecast looks great and the event line-up is even better. We hope to see everyone having a fantastic day.”

10 PM, Grand prize draw - wonder if all the tickets will make it in the drum this year, maybe the Police could make sure were not being ripped off again?

Wouldn't everyone have been CRB checked? Disgraceful if they haven't.
