A FATHER and son took the plunge off the Jurassic Coast for a good cause.
Tom Amery and his nine-year-old son George were among those taking part in the big abseil on Portland to support Julia’s House children’s hospice.
It was organised by Jim Oakley Adventures for the Dorset hospice at the abandoned Sharbutts quarry on the west side of the island.
Mr Amery, managing director of The Watercress Company based near Dorchester, admitted he wasn’t too keen on heights, but that heights do not faze his son who is a born climber and recently scaled Dancing Ledge near Swanage.
The abseil is part of a series of ‘out of the ordinary’ challenges George is carrying out to raise money for Julia’s House.
George described the abseil as ‘fun and exciting’.
The pair have raised £355 from the challenge so far but welcome more donations via justgiving. com/Tom-Amery-Matthews Others taking part in the abseil included Julia’s House nurse Claire Hudson-Cooper and it was one of 40 challenges she undertook this year for her 40th birthday.
