A CYCLIST was taken to hospital after coming off his bike on a busy road on Portland.

The incident happened at 5.15 pm this afternoon, when the cyclist fell off his bike on Portland Beach Road.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Dorset County Hospital by land ambulance.

His injuries are not thought to be serious.

There were traffic tailbacks in both directions as the road was closed for a short period to allow the man to be treated by paramedics before he was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “It appears that there was not a car involved and the man fell off his bike. He was taken to hospital by land ambulance and the road was reopened shortly after 6pm.

“It is understood that the injuries are not serious.”
