A MAN escaped serious injury after a candle caused a property fire on Portland.
Crews from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were called to a home in the Fortuneswell area this morning.
A retained crew from Portland and a crew from Weymouth were mobilised at around 11.24am.
Upon arrival crews found smoke to be issuing from the ground floor of the property.
The fire had already been extinguished and crews damped down the area using a small quantity of water.
A man was removed from the property suffering from smoke inhalation. He was treated by an ambulance at the scene.
The cause of the fire was believed to be a candle having fallen over on a wooden chair.
Damage was confined to the chair and an area of the carpet.
