TREES have been brought down and roads have been flooded as Dorset is hit by severe gales.

Motorists are being urged to drive carefully this morning as forecasters warn of severe weather.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office and the wind and rain is set to continue throughout this morning’s rush hour until 12pm today.

A number of roads have been affected by flooding including Frome Valley Road at Crossways and Druce Lane at Puddletown. There are reports of a tree down on Milldown Road at Blandford.

The weather is affecting some Condor Ferries' services.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain, will move eastwards across the UK on Monday.

“Gales or even severe gales are likely around exposed coasts and high ground in the west and north on Monday morning.”

He added: “The public should be aware of the potential for travel disruption from the strong winds as well as standing water on the roads and reduced visibility from spray and driving rain.”

Heavy rain is expected to continue until 10am.

Dorset County Council is advising drivers to watch out for surface water and spray. Motorists should have their lights on and keep the speed down.
