CHILDREN from Wool Community Library have been trying their hands at becoming filmmakers.
As part of the library’s Summer Reading Challenge and associated activities, youngsters aged between ten and 14 took part in two video workshops to make their own documentary film about how the challenge works and why they were taking part.
The annual Summer Reading Challenge is run at libraries across the country to encourage children to explore the world of books during their summer holidays.
All children need to do is sign up at their local library and read six books of their choice to collect stickers and rewards along the way. This summer nearly 100 children signed up for the challenge in Wool and by the end of September 81 had completed it.
The children’s documentary film about the challenge is already available on YouTube and will soon be able to view on Wool Library’s website.
Professional film maker Andrew Kerr, who edited the documentary, said: “All of the children who took part grasped the essentials very quickly.
“They understood the importance of steady camera work, of eliciting good information from the interviews and complementing the facts with engaging pictures.
“I was genuinely impressed.”
