FUNDRAISERS at Age UK Dorchester have been in stitches over their latest campaign.

Volunteers have knitted more than 5,000 tiny hats in aid of Innocent drinks and Age UK’s Big Knit campaign. The campaign is now in its tenth year and provides funding for local Age UK charities in return for producing tiny hats to be sold on top of drinks across the country.

Age UK Dorchester said contributions came from knitting groups, residential homes, sheltered accommodation and many individuals.

The largest contribution came from knitters on Portland, who donated more than 3,000 hats.

Veronica and Sheila from the group said: “We were already long term volunteers for Age UK Dorchester, but the Big Knit gave us a really nice way to give back.”

Funding raised from the campaign will go towards local projects delivered by Age UK Dorchester, such as the Reach Out project that aims to tackle isolation and loneliness in the local community.
