A WEYMOUTH youngster will be competing against girls from around the globe in a beauty pageant for charity.

Darcy Lane, 11, a pupil at Thornlow Preparatory School, was chosen as a finalist in the Face of the Globe competition, which will host its final round in Disneyland Paris this month.

Darcy was chosen as a finalist in the junior section during the regional finals in London and will now go with five other girls to compete against girls from around the world.

The pageant will help raise money for the Rainbow Child Foundation, which helps underprivileged children around the world and was founded by X Factor star Chico Slimani.

Alongside looks, judges will focus on the contestants’ personalities and the girls will have a chance to win awards as they raise money for the Foundation, including Miss Publicity and Miss Charity.

As part of her fundraising, Darcy has arranged an 85ft charity abseil down Portland’s Sharbutts Quarry this Sunday, and has already found over 30 helpers to take part on the day and raise money for the charity to add to the hundreds of pounds they have already raised.

Darcy said: “It’s a really important cause and I like helping people that are less fortunate than me.

“I’m a bit nervous about abseiling because I haven’t done it before, but my friends will be there so I’m going to have some fun as well.

“I’m really excited to go to Disney and meet Chico again. The pageant is Disney themed so I’m getting princess clothes and I’m really looking forward to that.”

Her mum Sara will also get to share in the excitement as she will chaperone Darcy in Paris.

She said: “I think I’m more nervous than she is. This is only Darcy’s second pageant so she’s done phenomenally well to get this far. I’m really proud of her.”

Darcy added: “It’s a very important cause helping children in need around the world, so please help out if you can.”
