LUCKY winners of the Dorchester Super Sleuth flag competition have been presented with their prizes by the Mayor Peter Mann.

Speaking to the winners, Phil Gordon from Dorchester’s Business Improvement District (BID), which organised the competition, said this year had been a resounding success, attracting over 600 entries and receiving positive feedback from children, parents and businesses alike.

Mr Gordon also announced some of the participating businesses chose to top up the winners’ prize money, adding to the youngsters’ rewards. This year’s Super Sleuth competition had a sports theme to tie in with the Commonwealth Games and World Cup.

The BID hid 115 flags around the town centre and plenty of young detectives and their families got to work over the summer searching for them.

Jessica Crate, 15, a pupil at Thomas Hardye School and first prizewinner for the 11 to 16 category, said: “It was great to win.

“The competition was quite hard. It took me weeks to complete it.

“I visited quite a lot of different places in Dorchester that I didn’t know about.

“I’m really looking forward to spending the New Look vouchers. I’d recommend it to other people as I didn’t think I would win.”

Matilda Dodds, 5 and her sister Neve Dodds, 6, who attend Greenford Primary School in Maiden Newton, said they were ‘very excited’ to win and enjoyed going into lots of different shops to complete their flag sticker albums.

They said they will be spending their toy vouchers on Squinkies toys.
