A COUNCILLOR has stressed the need for urgency in looking at future park and ride options for Dorchester.

A meeting of Dorset County Council’s environment overview committee was due to hear an update on work to look at future park and ride options for Weymouth and Dorchester.

Director for environment and economy Mike Harries said he had been involved in discussions with members from Weymouth but had been unable to arrange a similar meeting with councillors in the county town.

He added that further work also needed to be done and there would not be an update until the committee’s meeting in January.

Cllr Andy Canning said that with the potential impact on the Dorchester Transport and Environment Plan and work possibly due to start on phase two of the Charles Street scheme in autumn next year, there was a need to make progress.

He said: “This is quite urgent and time is pressing. I hope that will be taken on board.”
