A VINTAGE car and classic car rally raised more than £1,000 to help the air ambulance.

The Transport of Yesteryear team have been supporting Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance for the past 12 years.

Every year they put on an annual fun day and classic car show at School Hill in Chickerell during the summer.

This year was their 16th show and saw hundreds of people pack into the show ground to see vintage cars, traction engines, dancing and a birds of prey display.

More than 100 vehicles were at the show including stationary engines, steam engines, vintage and classic cars and motorcycles.

‘Best car in show’ was won by the oldest car to make an appearance, a 1925 Singer from New Milton. It was the first time the vehicle had appeared at the show.

The Transport of Yesteryear team presented a cheque for £1,250 to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Club chairman Carle Grahame said: “We are very pleased with the support we receive each year from the general public and the residents of the village.

“The show has grown immensely over 16 years and the three-acre show site is now full to capacity every year, attracting traders and exhibitors from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire. We are delighted to present a cheque to the air ambulance for £1,250. The total raised over 12 years by our club for our air ambulance is around £15,000.”

The group is a non-profit making club of vehicle enthusiasts, who support charity events and organise the Hardy Country Classic Tour supporting Weldmar Hospice.

n Next year’s Transport of Yesteryear will be held on June 28, 2015.
