RESIDENTS are vowing never to give up their fight against a ‘dangerous’ speed limit one year after they began campaigning to get it reduced.

West Dorset MP Oliver Letwin is continuing to back the crusade of people living in Forston as they say it is just a ‘matter of time’ before someone is killed on the section of the A352 which runs through the hamlet.

As reported in the Echo, residents have been lobbying Dorset County Council to cut the speed limit from 60mph to 30mph.

Lead campaigner Gill Reese said she will not stop until it is reduced.

“We’ve got the Dorset Wildlife Trust headquarters, two farms, Forston House – which sees a lot of activity – the Wessex Water treatment works with all its comings and goings, and four public bridleways – Forston is quite a busy place.

“And bridleways on a 60mph road with blind bends are too dangerous to use,” she said.

Residents invited MP Letwin along to see the situation for himself.

“Anyone standing outside the houses in Forston can see immediately that 60mph is not a suitable speed for this narrow and populated stretch of road,” Mr Letwin said following his visit.

“I am going to ask the county council to do a speed survey. I will then discuss with the parish and county how we can organise some reduction in speeds so that life becomes more tolerable for the residents."

Cllr Jill Haynes, county councillor for the ward, said other solutions should be explored and it may require some ‘lateral thinking.’ She said she would be happy to go and see the situation for herself if invited.
