A WOMAN from Weymouth has admitted assault and illegally possessing a knife and offensive weapons.

Sharon Cox, 43, of Derby Street, pleaded guilty to the charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), two counts of possessing an article with a blade or point and one charge of having an offensive weapon on June 17 this year, when she appeared at Dorchester Crown Court on November 21.

She denied a further two charges of illegally possessing an article with a blade or point on July 31.

Defending, Robert Pawson told the court Cox had fallen out with a woman called Alison Newman, who was the new girlfriend of her former partner, and there had been tension between the two since the relationship started.

Mr Pawson told the court that Cox decided to carry a kitchen knife, a lock knife and a stone wrapped up in a sock on her as she felt threatened following texts which had been sent to her from Ms Newman.

He said the incident started after Ms Newman approached Cox from behind, and Cox took the lock knife out of her pocket, opened it up and lashed out at Ms Newman, causing two cuts to Ms Newman’s hand that needed stitches.

Cox was bailed for pre-sentence reports by Judge Field and will appear at Dorchester Crown Court for sentencing on December 19.
