DAMAGE has been caused at a Weymouth nursery following a burglary attempt, police said.

An offender broke a window at Chipmunks Day Nursery in Buxton Road in a bid to get in – but nothing was stolen from inside.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following the incident last Friday (Dec12) night.

Detective Constable Gerald Marchant, of Weymouth CID, said: “The victim has told us that the premises was secure and entry was gained by smashing a ground floor window but nothing was removed from inside.

“The suspect was seen to leave and run away from the scene and is described by a witness as having his face covered, wearing a dark coat, jeans and white coloured trainers.

“I’d like to hear from any witnesses to this incident and from anyone who saw somebody acting suspiciously in the area of Buxton Road between 10.45pm and 11pm on Friday 12 December 2014.

“I’d also like to hear from anyone else with any other information that might help my investigation.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 12:453.
