AN ORGANISATION hailed as the ‘People’s Champion’ is looking for some festive support so it can help all those who turn to its experts for advice.

The Dorchester, Sherborne and Districts Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has launched its Christmas appeal for donations to boost its efforts in fighting for people’s rights.

Manager Daniel Cadisch, pictured above, urged people to think of the organisation over the festive period.

He said: “This is the time of year when many people like to raise money for charity through events such as Christmas bazaars or by carol singing.

“It would be wonderful if they could raise money for the bureau this year.

“The CAB is often referred to as the People’s Champion because we give free and independent advice on problems like debt, housing, benefits and employment issues.

“They don’t always realise that we are a charity and rely entirely on grants and donations.”

Mr Cadisch said demand for the support the CAB offers is continuing to grow and the charity itself needs support to keep up its good work.

He said: “Demand for our services grows all the time and it is vital that we are always here to help when needed.

“We are the team that people from all backgrounds turn to when they are struggling with problems.

“That’s why I am appealing for people to help us to help others by making a gift of a donation or the proceeds from a Christmas event.

“Every penny makes a difference to this community by enabling us to continue our range of services including home visits to clients, our outreach services and our partnership work with organisations such as other charities.”

The bureau, which has offices in Dorchester and Sherborne, helped nearly 7,000 clients during 2013/14, seeing an increase of 24 per cent on the previous year.

Mr Cadisch also urged people to make a New Year resolution to give regular donations to the bureau throughout 2014.
