Community organisations have been invited to ask for money raised from Bridport car boot sales.

Weekly car boots are held every Sunday in West Bay to raise money for local charities and community groups and the proceeds are distributed annually to good causes in 25 parishes around Bridport who can apply for grants ranging from £50 to £3,000.

The grant is distributed annually by a grants panel comprised of West Dorset District Council members.

Councillor Gillian Summers, town councillor and chairman of West Dorset District Council, said a range of different projects could be considered, so long as they are making a difference to their local community.

She said: “I have been pleased to be involved with distributing this money for more than 13 years, and have seen for myself the good that it does in the community. “I look forward to seeing lots of applications again this year and meeting the recipients and hearing about their projects at the awards event in September.”

Successful applicants will be invited to a celebration event at the Salthouse in West Bay in September to share news about their projects.

Community development officer Emma Scott added: “We are looking forward to hearing from a wide range of projects as usual which reflect how much good work is going on in our local communities.”

Good causes helped last year included Askers Meadow Nature Reserve, which received £775 towards the cost of transforming a piece of derelict land into a shared community resource, and the Powerstock First World War Project who used the money to produce a portrait of the parish’s 11 men who died in uniform during the First World War.

The closing date for applications is Thursday, April 30.

The application form can be found on the Dorset For You website, or groups can contact Emma Scott 01305 252204 or 07971 220067 or on email at e.scott@westdorset-weymouth.gov.uk
