Having gone to the meeting at the Pavilion, regarding the plans for the Pavilion site, I was shocked to hear Mr Cope speak on behalf of the 300 members of the civic society.
As a member of the civic society I have never been balloted for my view regarding the plans for the site and I find it very insulting to hear Mr Cope saying otherwise.
We received our newsletter on Friday, the day after the Pavilion meeting, with a request for the full membership to give their democratic mandate by voting on the future of Weymouth and Portland and return it to the chairman on three issues.
a) Do you want to see the new access road to Weymouth, built in your lifetime?
b) Do you want to see the Pavilion/ferry side left undeveloped in your lifetime?
c) Do you want to see the area carefully developed for the benefit of the entire community?
So how can Mr Cope say he was speaking for the 300 members? It was a case of cart before the horse'.
I do think Weymouth needs the Pavilion site updating, but not with eight storey buildings. Is Mr Cope happy with this?
This is not the first time Mr Cope has spoken without thinking, he has already upset the youth of Weymouth.
Is it any wonder the society cannot find a secretary and new young members? He complained of losing his democratic right' of having his say denied on the Monday, how about the Civic Society membership having theirs!
One very dissatisfied Civic Society Member.
