I fully agree with the letter Cabs on the quay is not fair play' (Echo, January 30) about taxis and private hire cars taking up the one-hour parking places on Weymouth Quay.
These are one of the very few places where people can park for an hour, freeof charge, in the Weymouth town area.
This morning I popped into town with my wife to get a bit of shopping and have a coffee, this we frequently do. I drove along the quay where we try to park for an hour.
I have noticed a build up of taxis parking in these on-street spaces over a period of time, usually with the drivers sitting inside either reading or smoking.
Today all the spaces were full and I counted nine taxis parked along the quay.
I drove around the block and along the Esplanade and noticed that Jock Brodie was there and one other taxi was parked on the rank opposite Marks and Spencer, leaving about thirty yards of road empty.
So, please play fair taxi drivers and give locals a chance of parking free of charge for their shopping.
I would not dream of parking on your rank and if I did I know I would be given grief and a ticket.
