The charge of negativity levelled at those who have expressed reservations about the proposed Pavilion development is as unfair as it is untrue. Negativity to new ideas surely applies to those who want to keep things the way they are now - and I am quite certain that nobody seriously wants that.
The objections raised have, to a large extent, been prompted by the overpowering proportions of the development complex and the fact that having got a foot in the door, the developers have seen fit to expand their proposals by almost double.
However, it is not only the size of the complex that gives cause for concern. One has the distinct impression, rightly or wrongly, that the designer has given no thought whatever to its organic integration with the adjacent Georgian architecture of the seafront.
My dictionary has two meanings for the word folly - both are appropriate here.
