A NINE-year-old dancer from Weymouth got the opportunity of a lifetime to star in pop star Ed Sheeran’s new music video.

Ty Penny, from Razzamataz Theatre School in Weymouth, spent two days with the double Brit Award-winning singer-songwriter after wowing judges with his talent at auditions.

Ty was one of only a few children who were selected to perform in the video for Ed Sheeran’s upcoming new song, Bloodstream, which features Rudimental.

Auditions were held earlier this month in London and five days later Ty got the call to say he had made the final cut.

He and his family had little time to get their heads around meeting the pop star, as just a few days later they started filming the video in Ipswich.

Although details of the video are being kept under wraps, Ty’s family said the video was focused on the youngsters and meeting Ed Sheeran had been a fantastic experience.

Ty’s father Phill said: “It was a quick turnaround – Ty was told on the Friday that he would be performing with Ed Sheeran just three days later.

“He was unbelievably excited about the filming but I have to admit his sister was even more excited and she was dying to come too.

“The video was really about the kids and Ed was there with them a lot throughout the two days, especially the Monday, talking to them and getting to know them, which was brilliant.

“Ty has never been afraid of getting up in front of a crowd and performing.

“This is the biggest thing he has done so far. Ty is so well liked by everyone he works with and his mum and I are so proud of him.”

Ty has been a member of Razzamataz Theatre School for about three years, following in his sister Sian’s footsteps.

Despite his young age he has been to about seven auditions, has performed in numerous pantomimes and starred in a BBC iPlayer advert.

Principal of Razzamataz Theatre School Lauren Whitehead said: “I am beyond proud of Ty.

“He is dedicated and talented and he is just a lovely lad. He is very modest and he won’t let all this get to his head. This is just the start of things for him.”

Razzamataz Theatre School works closely with Top Talent performing arts agency, which helps organise auditions.
