A DAD who is raising money for a cancer charity in memory of his son has won a competition hosted by a local business.
Owen Newton, from Blandford, set up the Teddy20 charity following the death of his son Ted who died aged 10.
The charity has raised more than £110,000 since it was founded in 2010, but Mr Newton decided to continue his fundraising performance, the charity would need a mascot.
He entered a Facebook competition hosted by Dorset-based Peeks the Party People to win a giant teddy costume and won the main prize.
The costume is now the mascot of the charity and will be used at further fundraising events.
Nr Newton said: “We really needed a costume for the charity and when I saw that Peeks were giving one away I thought ‘blow me down’.
“I entered and won a huge teddy costume which we use when we’re out raising money.
“The kids absolutely love it and we’re so pleased because it’s a really good quality one and raises awareness of the charity.”
Nick Peek, managing director of Peeks, added: “We’re delighted that this prize is being used for such a good cause.”
