A REALITY television contestant is urging people across Dorset to put on their aprons and oven gloves and bake for charity.

Kimberley Wilson, who was a finalist in the Great British Bake Off in 2013, has joined forces with national charity The MS Society as it launches a fundraising drive called Cake Break in May.

The MS Society is the UK’s leading national charity for the multiple sclerosis, a disease which attacks the nerves in the brain and spinal cord and the charity estimates around 650 people in Dorset are living with the disease.

Now, the charity has launched a mouth-watering fundraising drive as it bids to raise around £300,000, with a national ‘bakeathon’ taking place on May 15.

Miss Wilson, who finished runner-up in the 2013 reality television show on the BBC, decided to back the charity as one of her relatives suffers from the disease

She said: “A close family member of mine has MS so I’ve witnessed the impact it can have on someone’s day to day life.

“It’s an unpredictable condition and it can be scary not to know how you’re going to feel from one day to the next.

“Cake Break is a fun and delicious way to raise money to support the work the MS Society does to help people living with the condition, and it’s a great reason to get a bunch of friends together and show off your baking skills.”

Members of the public are being to host their own “Cake Breaks” and can apply for a fundraising pack from the charity.

Everyone that takes part in the event will also be entered into a competition to win a baking master class with the Bake Off star.

Jemima Woolgar, Cake Break Officer at the MS Society said: “We’d love more people to get involved with Cake Break.

“All the money raised will go towards funding life-changing MS research; supporting our helpline and providing grants and short breaks for individuals and families affected by MS.”
