POLICE are urgently seeking the driver of a blue car they believe may be from Dorset after a 20-year-old moped rider died in a collision.

The incident happened on the A350 near Warminster, Wiltshire on Saturday at around 4.15pm.

The car and the moped were travelling south towards Shaftesbury when the collision happened at Longbridge Deverill at about 4.15pm.

The Yamaha 125cc moped collided with a Transit van travelling in the opposite direction and the rider, who was from the Warminster area, died at the scene. The driver of the blue car failed to stop.

Wiltshire Police have put out an appeal to Dorset residents as they believe the driver of the car was travelling to Dorset or may live in Dorset.

PC Charlotte Sartin said: “We know that the moped was following close behind the blue car. Sadly the moped rider lost control and collided with an oncoming van.

“We are extremely keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the A350 at about 4.15pm and witnessed the collision.

“We need to speak to the driver of the blue car who did not stop at the scene. He or she may well live in Dorset or have been on their way to visit Dorset.”

Anyone with information is asked to phone 101 and ask for Wiltshire Police.
