TERRY BUTCHER is now firmly installed as one of new Scotland manager George Burley's assistants.

Big Jim (Rutherglen) wants to know how many times the ex-England captain faced Scotland, and if his new boss was ever in opposition to him. Butcher played in six matches against the Dark Blues from 1982-89, and his record is very good. England were victorious in four of the games with one loss and one draw. In the British Home Championship match at Hampden on May 29, 1982, Butcher made his first appearance against Scotland in central defence, while George Burley was earning his 11th and final full cap at right-back for Scotland. England won 1-0 with a Paul Mariner goal.

ARTHUR McKENNA (Mt Vernon) - How many trophies did Johnstone Burgh win in season 1958/59? I think they had only been formed a couple of seasons. You are correct with your dates as Johnstone Burgh, formed in 1956, had early success in season 1958/59 by winning the Central League Cup, the West of Scotland Cup and the Renfrewshire Junior Cup as well as becoming Central League Champions. Their greatest victories, however, came just a few years later when they won the Scottish Junior Cup in 1963/64 and 1967/68.

BOBBY BLACK (Drumchapel) - When Partick Thistle won the League Cup in 1971, what was their route to the Final and who scored the goals in their Hampden triumph? To qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, Thistle topped their section, which contained Arbroath, East Fife and Raith Rovers. They then met Alloa Athletic in a supplementary play off, winning 5-2 on aggregate over the two legs.

St Johnstone were next up and, despite a 2-0 defeat at Muirton Park, Thistle ran riot in the home leg with a 5-1 victory taking them into the semi-final. Falkirk provided the opposition in the Hampden Park semi-final, where two goals from Denis McQuade gave the Jags a 2-0 win.

In the final on October 23, 1971, they met Celtic at Hampden Park and, against all odds, recorded a sensational 4-1 victory with goals from Lawrie, Bone, A. Rae and McQuade.

DUBBIN (Castlemilk) - A recent Now You Know' question regarding the Indian National Team reminded me that Celtic once had an Indian player. Can you give me any details? In season 1936-37 Celtic introduced a novel touch when in an Alliance game against Galston they fielded Abdul Salim, an Indian. Salim played without boots, his feet being tightly bandaged, and played as a trialist but was not signed on as a player with Celtic.

J McCOLL (Motherwell) - Can you please tell me which players were the leading goalscorers in the Finals of the following World Cups - 1954, 1958, 1974 and 1978? The top scoring players in these tournament Finals were as follows: 1954 - Sandor Kocsis (Hungary, 11 goals). 1958 - Juste Fontaine (France, 13). 1974 - Gregorz Lato (Poland, 7). 1978 - Mario Kempes (Argentina, 6).
