A ROTARY Club is hosting a charity event to raise money for an operation to help a little girl walk.

Wareham Rotary is organising a gig featuring The Wurzels in May at Rye Hill Farm in Bere Regis.

The band Skimmity Hitchers will also perform and there a bar and hog roast.

In July 2012 Roxy Berry, now age four, was diagnosed Spastic Diplegic Cerebral Palsy which has left her reliant on a walker. Without it, Roxy is only able to sit up and crawl-although she still tries to copy her twin sister Willow.

Roxy's family has been trying to raise £50,000 for a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR)- an operation pioneered by a doctor in the USA, pre and post-op physiotherapy and specialist equipment such as a child treadmill and a wheelchair.

Fundraising started in July last year and so far the total funds equates to almost £21,000.

Roxy’s mum Gina said: “We’re hopeful with the summer coming we might be able to raise more money.

“She’s doing really well now but as she’s growing, if we don’t get on and have this operation as soon as we can, she’ll have to have ongoing orthopaedic work done on her feet.”

The fundraising gig is on May 22. Tickets cost £17 each at warehamrotary.co.uk or from Rye Hill Farm, Bere Regis.
