A TEENAGER was treated in hospital after being bitten by a dog in Weymouth town centre.

Dorset Police are now appealing for the dog owner and witnesses to come forward following the incident, which happened on Saturday on King Street opposite Weymouth Train Station.

A 15-year-old local boy was with a group of friends riding a skateboard at around 2.30pm when a dog, described as a black and white collie or similar, bit his leg.

Following the bite, the man who was walking the dog, described as white, in his fifties with grey balding hair, did not stop and walked off from the incident.

The boy was then taken to hospital, where he received treatment for puncture wounds to his lower leg.

Police Constable James Vincent, from Weymouth Police, said: “I am hoping that somebody who was in the town centre on Saturday afternoon may have witnessed the incident.

“I am appealing to these people, and anyone who has relevant information, to please get in contact.

“I would also urge the owner of the collie to get in contact with me so that I can speak with him to determine the circumstances of this incident.

“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 11:0237.
