A DECISION on whether prehistoric visitor attraction, Jurassica will receive £16 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund has been pushed back until May.

It was previously reported that the decision from the fund would be given at the end of April but it has now been postponed until after the general election, the Echo can report.

Mike Hanlon, the chief executive of Jurassica said: “We’re never over confident about it but we have done the best we can.”

The awaited decision will reveal whether the subterranean geological park will receive funding from the pot which will go towards studies including an environmental and economical impact study.

The project in Portland, which is scheduled to open in 2020, has attracted the support of Sir David Attenborough and Eden Project’s Sir Tim Smit.

Placed at the former Yeolands Quarry, it will cost approximately £79 million in total but the funding will get the project off the ground and after its completion looks to provide jobs and bring £20 million to the local economy.

A spokesperson from the HLF fund said: “We don’t have a confirmed date at present but yes, any announcement about this decision is likely to be made in late May.”
