FIREFIGHTERS were alerted to a fire outside a house in North Dorset yesterday evening.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service was called to the fire at a property in Melcombe Bingham, near Sturminster Newton, after reports of a small fire near to a house.

Two crews from Sturminster Newton attended the incident, and on arrival found the fire had contained an amount of clippings from a bush which had been ignited, and caused damage to a drain pipe.

The fire was out on arrival, but crews spent some time damping down the area.

A spokesman for the service has urged members of the public to be careful with controlled burns such as bonfires and to keep them away from buildings, and to inform the service of any bonfires that are planned on 01305 753166
