POLICE investigating an alleged fail-to-stop collision in Dorset which left an elderly man with life-changing injuries have renewed their appeal for witnesses.

A collision took place in Lansdowne Road, Bournemouth at around 11.30am on Wednesday, April 15.

It was reported that a van hit the victim, a 75-year-old local man, near to the pedestrian crossing. It is alleged the driver of the van failed to stop at the scene.

The driver has since been spoken to but no arrests have been made.

The victim sustained serious and potentially life-changing injuries to his head and leg. He was taken by ambulance to Poole Hospital, where he remains receiving treatment.

The man is expected to undergo further surgery in the coming weeks.

PC Kevin Farenden, of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit, said: “As part of my investigation I am now aware that at least two people stopped at the scene immediately after the collision to help the victim.

“Unfortunately we do not have any more details about these people.

“I would urge these kind members of the public to please contact me as I believe they may have important information that might assist my investigation.

“I am also appealing to anyone else who may have witnessed the collision to contact me urgently with their information on 101.

“Calls will be dealt with in strict confidence.”
