AN ELDERLY woman escaped with minor injuries after her car crashed into a house in Weymouth.

Emergency services rushed to Corporation Road at 5.30pm yesterday after a silver Ford Ka, being driven by a 78-year-old woman, crashed into a residential property.

The front of the car came to a halt in the living room of the house, destroying part of the front wall, the window and the front wall of the garden.

Following the crash, the woman was taken to Dorset County Hospital after being treated by paramedics. It is understood her injuries are not serious.

Nobody from the house was injured.

The road was cordoned off from the Abbotsbury Road junction and Adelaide Crescent as the emergency services worked.

Three fire engines also attended, and a building engineer was requested by firefighters as there were concerns about the structural stability of the house.

Seth Why, a station manager for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It appears that the driver, a 78-year-old woman, lost control of the car and it then smashed into the wall of the house.

“It smashed through the front wall and became embedded in the ground floor living room.

“The woman is currently being treated at the scene for minor injuries and it is not thought that the injuries are serious.”

Mr Why added the woman was rescued from the car by firefighters and paramedics, before she was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports that a car had crashed into a house on Corporation Road shortly before 5.30pm.

“There is one elderly female casualty, who suffered from minor injuries.

“She was treated at the scene by paramedics for the injuries, and was taken by land ambulance to Dorset County Hospital for treatment, although her injuries are not thought to be serious.”

Speaking at the scene, Sergeant Joe Pardey, from Weymouth Police, said: “The woman has been taken to Dorset County Hospital with what appears to be minor injuries. We are now investigating the reasons why this happened and are waiting for building services to assess the building and make sure it’s safe.”

Speaking from the scene, an eye-witness who lives on Corporation Road told the Echo “I can’t believe what has happened. It’s not every day that you see a car crash into a house like this.

“I don’t know how it happened.”
