POLICE are continuing to investigate after two people were arrested in Weymouth yesterday after a separate murder enquiry.

As reported in the Echo, a man was found dead at a property in Boscombe on Tuesday morning.

He has been named by police as 22-year-old Phillip Nicholson from Poole.

The circumstances of his death are suspicious and a murder investigation, led by detectives from Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, is underway.

The man’s next of kin have been informed and are being kept updated by specially-trained officers. The coroner has been notified.

A 25-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both from Bournemouth, were arrested in Weymouth on Tuesday afternoon near North Quay on suspicion of murder and are still helping police with their enquiries.

The incident is not linked with the Dorchester murder probe.

Eyewitnesses described how a number of police cars pulled up outside the council offices on North Quay before armed police officers got out from the vehicles and headed in the direction of Boot Hill.

Senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stewart Balmer, said: "We’d also like to speak to anyone who had recent contact with Phillip Nicholson or who may have any information that may support the inquiry.

"All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”

A cordon remains in place at the address in Sea Road, Boscombe, while crime scene investigators carry out a thorough examination of the scene.

Officers have also been carrying out house-to-house enquiries.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting Operation Fraction. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.

It came after a murder investigation was launched following the discovery of a body at an address in the Boscombe area of Bournemouth.
