FOUR dogs were rescued by firefighters after a cooker hob sparked a house fire.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) was called to a property on Diana Way in Corfe Mullen just before 7.30pm yesterday after reports of a smoke alarm going off and smoke coming out of the window.

Two fire engines from Wimborne attended and on arrival, found the property was smoke logged and using breathing apparatus managed to gain entry to the property and rescue four dogs.

The owners of the house and the dog, two terriers and two Labradors, had been out at the time the fire started.

Firefighters located the fire, which had started on the cooker hob in the kitchen, and extinguished it using one hose reel jet and breathing apparatus.

It is believed the fire started by the hob being left on and then spread to some nearby tea lights which were in a hob.

The dogs were all fit and healthy and unaffected by the fire, and were reunited with their owners when they returned when firefighters were still in the house dealing with the incident.

The cooker and pan were completely destroyed by the fire and there was slight smoke damage to the entire property.

A spokesman for DFRS said: “The service would like to remind people to ensure that they check that all of their appliances are switched off before they leave their homes, as fires such as this one can easily be started.”
