A MOTORCYCLIST has been airlifted to hospital with serious head injuries following a crash in north Dorset.
The A350 has been closed for 12 miles in both directions following the incident, in which the motorcyclist left the road near Durweston at around 6.50pm.
A spokesman for the South West Ambulance Service said one ambulance and one rapid response vehicle with a paramedic on board attended the scene.
"As soon as they arrived the patient was assessed and due to the serious nature of the injuries the air ambulance was called to the scene," she said.
The casualty, who was said to have suffered ‘critical’ injuries, was flown to Southampton Hospital for treatment.
A 12 mile stretch of the road has been closed between Durweston and Shaftesbury so police can put a diversion in place.
