Firefighters rescued a Cocker Spaniel from a burning holiday lodge in rural Dorset.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the fire at 11am yesterday morning in Bradford Abbas.

A crew from Sherborne and Yeovil were sent to the scene.

On arrival the crews found the lodge was well alight.

They were told that a Cocker Spaniel was inside the building.

They immediately rescued the dog from the blaze.

Firefighters used two main jets and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire which took almost two hours.

Crews also dampened down and stripped away the roof.

A spokesman for DFRS said: “The cause of the fire was an electrical short circuit of a halogen downlighter. “The fire caused severe damage to a wooden lodge.

“A Cocker Spaniel named Martha was rescued by crews using breathing apparatus, she was checked over by a vet and was absolutely fine.”
