THE third Party in the Park was the "biggest and best" so far, packed full of music, food and fun for the whole family.

Hosted by local radio station Air 107.2FM, the popular party rocked from 11am to 6pm on Sunday at Lodmoor Country Park.

Local bands The Leggomen, Triple Threat, Wilson and Pop Club played on the main stage while the whole event was played live on the radio station across Weymouth.

There was also a range of entertainment from fossil painting to creepy crawlies and other wildlife on display.

Sadly, tThe event was to be the last for Air 107.2FM founder and volunteer Carl Greenham who will be taking a break from the station along with his partner and station director Sarah Bungay.

Carl said that the day was emotional for all the rest of the team as they bid farewell to their colleagues.

He said: “Today is just such a great celebration of the community.

“The turn out this year is incredible. We have got bands that have travelled from far and wide to be here today.

“This is the biggest and best that it has been without a doubt, there must have been be about 5,000 people here at the party.

“I just want to say thanks to all the volunteers that have supported me and helped me put on today’s party but also to the community for supporting the radio station and everything we have done.

“My last official day with the station will be Wednesday but this is my leaving do and I couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate the last four years.”

Lee Roper, 39, from Weymouth was visiting the event with his family.

He said: “There are good bands and a good atmosphere. We have just come for a drink and some food and to relax.”

Lisa Stevens, 45, from Weymouth said that the event had improved year on year.

“This year, looking around it looks like there’s much more to do especially for the children. It looks better set up.

"I’m really looking forward to seeing The Leggomen play.”

Roy Nash, 58, also from Weymouth said: “Everyone looks happy and has a smile on their face.”

Ian Brooke, a representative of nationwide charity Shelterbox, who were one of the stalls at the event said: “I think there are more people here than there were last year.

“It’s been a great day, everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying themselves and the bands are great.”

Kevin Frampton from Weymouth said: “The event has a great atmosphere for families.”

AIR 107.2 FM will also be hosting the beach stage at Weymouth Carnival tomorrow, entertaining the crowds with live music.
