RESIDENTS of Bradford Peverell are gearing up for the grand opening of a telephone box that will be used as a book exchange point for the village.

Chairman of Bradford Peverell Parish Council, Sylvia Denning, said she was looking forward the event and hoped the book exchange would be a great asset to residents.

Cllr Denning said: "Somebody in the village suggested that we should adopt the box - there are places throughout the country that have done this.

"The parish council discussed it and sent a flyer out to the residents asking if they believed it to be a good idea and what they would like to see it used as and we came up with a book exchange.

"BT has decommissioned it and we are currently putting book shelves up in it.

"The ribbon will be cut by two people who have lived in the village for more than 50 years.

"We will also have two young children to be the first people to exchange books.

"The box is right in the centre of the village and I hope it will be a community point and young people will use it and meet there.

"We have a range of books and children books and we are thinking of possibly having some maps for the area in there too and maybe some cycle paths as we are on a cycle route.

"It's a quirky event and a bit of fun.

"Someone in the village has composed a song for the event too.

"People will be gathering at 1.45pm and the grand opening will be a 2pm."

The grand opening is being held on Saturday September 12.
