DO you know a building that is truly terrific?

The Weymouth Civic Society has launched its annual awards and is now inviting people to nominate projects.

Last year’s award plaque was presented for the small group of new houses at Easton Square, Portland, which the judges said, were carefully designed to fit in with the characteristic Portland stone buildings that border the Square.

A special award was also made for the drystone-built waypoints that have been created along the new Wildlife Legacy Trail from Littlemoor to Portland Bill.

A spokesman for the civic group said: “We are looking for good quality new development or restoration of historic buildings, or other such schemes that make a real contribution and improvement to the appearance of their local area.

“They should have been completed during this past year up to October, and should be located within the general area of Weymouth, Portland and Chickerell.”

Anyone who would like to make any suggestions for consideration should contact Weymouth Civic Society before October, either by post to the Plans Sub-Committee Secretary at 71 Roman Road, Weymouth, DT3 5JH, by phone on 01305 782116, or by email via info@weymouthcivicsociety.org.
