FRIENDS of the late Ruth David will be lacing up their walking boots once again in their third charity challenge in her memory.

Ms David, who was born in Stoke Abbott and lived in Dorset all her life, tragically passed away in September 2013 following a battle with cancer.

The 54-year-old spent her last days in the Joseph Weld

Hospice in Dorchester.

Last September, more than 40 of Ruth’s friends took to the road as a tribute to her and raised £8,500 for Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and Penny Brohn Cancer Care in Bristol.

In 2013 friends of Ruth also sold her favourite flowers – sunflowers – and raised more than £1,500.

This year, the group will be walking from the Harbour Café in West Bay to the Swan Pub in Abbotsbury along the B3157 coast road – a distance of almost nine miles.

The walk will be raising money for the same two charities and will start at 10am on Saturday. September 12.

Melanie King, who knew Ms David for years, said: “It was incredibly sad to lose Ruth; I’ve been friends with her for a long time. She worked at Girling and Bowditch veterinary practice for 35 years.

“Ruth was my best and

closest friend and when she died I had a great hole in my life so focused on doing

something in her memory.”

Melanie said Ruth worked all her life to be able to afford her favourite car – an Audi TT – so this year’s fundraiser is called the "TT Trek".

She added: “The coast road from Bridport to Weymouth was one of Ruth’s favourite driving routes as she loved the beautiful views.

“She called it the best road in the county.”

Melanie warned motorists of traffic delays in the area on the day of the walk. She said the group will also be carrying donation buckets and any donations will be appreciated.

She added: “Ruth was a very special person who was loved by everyone that knew her.

“Cyndy Mumford, the owner of the Harbour Café, was also a good friend of Ruth’s so she said we can start our walk from there.

“We would like to thank

motorists in advance for their patience and we will also be passing through the Bull Pub in Swyre.

“Any donations towards the walk would be very much appreciated and the money is going to two very good causes.”
