TWO Weymouth youngsters are embarking on an eight-day BMX cycle ride from Weymouth to London for charity.

Reece Mulqueen, 15, and Laurence Lee, 15, who are both Year 11 students at the Wey Valley School and Sports College, are dedicating just over a week of their summer holidays to attempt to power pedal their way to the capital.

The pair have set their sights on the challenge to raise money for the sports leaders award, which trains secondary school students to teach sport to children of a primary school age.

Reece said: "We both have a passion for cycling and want to take a nice cycling trip with a reason to do so.

"The funding we hope to raise will go towards training and the purchase of more facilities for the sports leaders award.

Support "We have also sent emails to BMX bike groups who will hopefully support our mission in return for us either wearing or promoting the BMX name in any way we can while we cycle."

Reece and Laurence will be undertaking the challenge in the company of just one another for the 154-mile journey.

Reece said the fundraiser will begin on August 20 and they plan to arrive in London eight days later if everything runs to plan.

Stopping in towns will enable Reece and Laurence to drum up valuable support and stock up on important food supplies for much-needed energy boosts.

The pair plan to stay in either hotels or bed and breakfasts.

They aim to raise thousands of pounds.

Reece and Laurence's sponsorship money will have to cover accommodation and food costs as well as raising funds for their chosen charity.
