Bridport teenager baking her way to 'life changing' Ecuador trip

India Morgan, 14, is determined to raise as much money as possible to fund an expedition to Ecuador, where she will be working on important projects to improve living standards for local people.

The Walditch resident is aiming to take part in a Camps International trip and will need to raise around £4,000 in order to fund the adventure.

On the trip, India will help support rural communities, reforestation projects, marine protection and building schools.

India’s first fundraising event will take place this Saturday (17) at Walditch Village Hall from 2pm until 4pm, when she will host an afternoon tea. India and her family have been hard at work baking cakes and scones, and she’s also planning to use the event to sell handmade Christmas cards and gifts.

Almost 40 percent of money raised by India will go directly towards local projects in Ecuador. The teenager is hopeful she can raise enough money to go on the trip, which she thinks will be 'life changing'.

India said: "I have never done anything like this before, and I'm going to do everything I can to raise money.

"I really hope people come along for an afternoon tea this Saturday. It's really important to support those less fortunate than you, and this expedition will probably be life changing."

The Sir John Colfox Academy student and her family are organising a series of fundraising events and sponsorship opportunities in order to raise the money for India to go on her adventure.

Those taking part in the Camps International trip to Ecuador will be working and living alongside the local people in the Andes, the Amazon and along the Pacific coast.

Many of the people that volunteers work with are living in poverty and they do not have access to proper educational facilities or the ability to generate enough income to support their families.
