A CHICKERELL man has been handed a community order after being caught dealing drugs in Weymouth town centre.

Casey Levett, aged 32, appeared at Dorchester Crown Court to be sentenced after admitting possession of a class C drug with intent to supply and an offence of supplying class B to another.

Prosecutor Simon Foster said that on April 19 Levett was detained by police in Weymouth town centre in the early hours of the morning after an altercation had been seen on CCTV.

He was found to be in possession of around 35 blue tablets, which were found to be diazepam.

In a basis of plea Levett, of School Hill, Chickerell, claimed he had been depressed following a family bereavement and was on prescribed medicine but it had not been strong enough.

He went on to obtain diazepam by other means and then started to sell the drug.

On August 8, while on bail for the original offence, Levett was again seen on CCTV in Weymouth town centre in the early hours in a doorway with another person.

He was found in possession of the class B drug amphetamine.

In another basis of plea Levett claimed he was not a dealer of amphetamine but had been drinking heavily on the night in question and sold a wrap he had in his possession for money so he could buy more drink.

Anne Brown, mitigating, said Levett had recently become a father and was keen to move on from his past alcohol and drug-related behaviour.

She added that he did not seek to minimise his behaviour and was “ashamed” of what he had done.

Judge Jonathan Fuller QC sentenced Levett to a community order for 18 months with a rehabilitation activity requirement.
